Ringgold High School Marching Band to perform at 2008 Russell Athletic-NAIA Football National Championship

October 21, 2008 - The Ringgold High School Marching Tiger Band has been named the official marching band of the 53rd Annual Russell Athletic-NAIA Football National Championship, the event’s Host Committee announced today. The game will be played Saturday, Dec. 20, at noon at historic Barron Stadium in Rome.

“The 200-plus-member Ringgold High Band will be an incredible addition to the championship event,” said Jim Williams, chairman of the Special Programs Committee for the championship. In appreciation for the band’s commitment to the event, the Host Committee is contributing $1,000 to the band’s fundraising drive.

A perennial champion in marching competitions, Ringgold’s Marching Tiger Band is directed by Robin L. Christian. The band has performed during the halftime shows for Ringgold Tiger Football for more than 50 years. The band began with 25 members and has grown each year to its present size. The band consistently receives Superior scores for their marching performances and has received the title of Grand Champion for many of their award winning shows, including two such titles for their 2007 performance of “Symphonic Sounds.” In 2006, the Marching Tiger Band represented the state of Georgia in New York City’s Veterans Day parade and was named Band of the Year in the Chattanooga area.

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics’ 2008 and 2009 National Championship games were awarded to Shorter College and Rome-Floyd County earlier this year. The games are sponsored by Russell Athletic. For more information on plans for the game, visit www.naianationalchampionship.com.
