Thursday’s FCA Breakfast Sells Out, Fans Encouraged to Attend FANatic Friday, Game

Rome, Ga. – With the University of Sioux Falls Cougars and Lindenwood University Lions scheduled to arrive in Rome tomorrow (Wednesday, Dec. 16), community excitement is building. Signage and logos are popping up around Barron Stadium, and downtown businesses are sporting signs to welcome NAIA guests to town. Plans are underway for Welcome to Rome dinners at both First Baptist Church and First Presbyterian Church; the dinners are a reprise from last year’s championship and were a hit with players and coaches alike.

Already sold out are tickets to Thursday morning’s FCA Champions of Character Breakfast, which will feature the 2008 FCA National Coach of the Year: Shorter College Head Football Coach Phil Jones.

“We have had remarkable response to this year’s breakfast event, which will again be sponsored by Chick-fil-A,” said Rome attorney Bob Berry, who serves as co-chair of the Host Committee for the Russell Athletic-NAIA Football National Championship. “We are confident that the FCA breakfast will be a great start to an exciting championship week.”

In addition, Berry encouraged local residents and guests from out of town to make plans to attend the Friday evening pep rally/block party presented by the Downtown Business Improvement District (BID). The FANatic Friday event is open to the public at no charge and features performances by Hot Shots Cheerleading and the Georgia Blues Brothers.

Georgia Blues Brothers

The event begins Friday, Dec. 18, at 7:30 p.m. at the Town Green with a performance by Hot Shots Cheerleading. Beginning at approximately 8:25 p.m., representatives from the Rome High’s Sound of the Seven Hills Marching Band will perform. Following next will be the introduction of the teams vying for this year’s NAIA national title. Rounding out FANatic Friday will be a two-hour concert featuring the Georgia Blues Brothers. The Lindenwood University Pep Squad will also perform.

On Saturday, Dec. 19, the Cougars and Lions will go head to head in the 2009 Russell Athletic/NAIA National Championship game. Kickoff is slated for 12 noon in Rome’s Historic Barron Stadium. Tickets to the championship game are $25 and are available for purchase by contacting The Forum Civic Center Box Office at (706) 291-5281 or (800) 858-7601, or by visiting www.forumevents.org. Fans may also purchase tickets at the gate on game day.
