Rome Orthopaedic Center will serve as medical liaison for the 2011 NAIA Football National Championship
Rome, GA (December 14, 2011) – They have been a part of the game since its inception four years ago.
But while they continue their support as one of the sponsors of the Russell Athletic-NAIA Football National Championship game, Dr. Charles B. May, Jr. and the staff at Rome Orthopaedic Center will also be on call.
When defending champion Carroll College of Helena Montana squares off against St. Xavier University of Chicago on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at Barron Stadium to determine the 2011 NAIA National Champion, Rome Orthopaedic Center will once again serve as medical liaison for the two teams.
“We’re proud to be associated with the championship game and being a part of something that is big for Rome,” May said about ROC’s involvement in the game that has been played in Rome for the past four years. “We are there to help the teams if they have any problems or concerns and assist them any way we can.”
“We are grateful for their participation and appreciate their involvement and support,” Rome Host Committee co-chairman Bob Berry said. They’ve been a part of this since our first game.”
While both the Carroll Saints and the St. Xavier Cougars will come to Rome with their own team physicians and training staffs, the Rome Host Committee recognized the need to have a local medical support team for the game.
That need has been met by Rome Orthopaedic Center, which will have personnel on the Carroll and St. Xavier sidelines, standing by to assist the teams should a medical emergency occurs. |

In addition, the Saints and Cougars will have the ability to call upon even more help from Rome’s medical community.
Teaming up with the Saints and Cougars will be the athletic trainers from Floyd Medical Center’s Sports Medicine Program, while FMC’s Emergency Medical Services will provide a fully-staffed unit to provide transportation if needed as well as its golf cart to use on the field.
“It is fun being around successful teams like those who make it to the championship games,” said May. “They know what it takes to get this far. This is an exciting time of year for us.”
“They represent the continued growing support we’ve received from the community,” Berry said about the partnerships, “and we need to continue to grow that support to be able to keep this game in Rome.”
Tickets for the championship game are $25 each and are available for purchase at The Forum by calling 706-291-5281 or 800-858-7601, or by visiting www.forumevents.org.
